Dogfish Head Brewery Releases Gluten-Free Beer

Just in time for the Super Bowl, there's great news for the gluten-free gang!  Dogfish Head Brewery this month relased Tweason'ale, a seasonal beer that is gluten-free and is certified by Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO).

Europe Adopts Stricter Labeling Law for Baked Goods

This month, consumers in Europe are feeling a little bit better about labeling of gluten-free products as a new law went into affect requiring goods labeled as gluten-free to contain less than 20ppm of gluten. The new standard is 10 times greater than the previous standard, which was set at 200ppm per product.

Support Group Looks at Elimination Diet for Diagnosis

A new celiac awareness group in Texas is encouraging people who even suspect that they have a gluten allergy to try omitting gluten and see if it helps.  The group is made of of members who after many trials and tribulations stumbled upon their diagnoses after doctors had trouble finding what was wrong. Despite the success of this group, it is always advisable to speak to your doctor first before starting a gluten-free diet, as the diagnostic tests will not work once a gluten-free diet is started.

EU Strengthens Food Labeling Laws

The European Commission regulation requiring that any product labelled as "gluten-free" must be under 20 mg/kg came into full force yesterday.

This is great news as Europe continues to make progress for their gluten-free community, making life a little bit easier.  Let's continue to push the US, which has the same proposal on the books to get it passed so reading labels can be that much easier and safer!
