According to new research from the Mayo Clinic there are 1.8 million Americans living with Celiac Disease but only around 1.4 million know that they have it.
Joseph Murray M.D. who was a researcher for the study says that, "If you detect one person for every five or six (who have it), we aren't doing a very good job detecting celiac disease." The researchers also determined from the study that the rate of Celiac in the U.S. is the same as that in European countries and that for so far unexplainable reasons it is more prevalent in Caucasians.
